James D Bloom III is the current Chief Executive Officer of Excel Mechanical Contractors, LLC. As the leader of Excel Mechanical, James has grown the company by nearly 6X in less than 5 years. Along with growing revenue, James has fostered a culture of excellence, hand selected a very strong leadership team that has been recruited from some of the best mechanical contractors in Maryland, and has founded new divisions and capabilities. James’ strategic vision, financial acumen, and organizational understanding has positioned Excel Mechanical to continue moving towards its goal of becoming a premier contractor in the Mid-Atlantic region.

The success James has been able to bring to Excel Mechanical Contractors, LLC is a result of the extensive knowledge, training, and experienced gained through years of attending excellent schools and training, and working for top-notch companies.

James’ path to business leadership started by obtaining an Undergraduate Degree in Business and Finance with a minor in Political Science from Ursinus College. He next obtained a Master’s Degree in Business Administration with a Focus in Finance from Drexel University’s Lebow College of Business. James is also a graduate of Lockheed Martin’s Finance Leadership Development Program, where he completed 3.5 years of rotational assignments and classes in Contract Management, Project Management, Financial Management, Government Contracting, and Leadership. James graduated from this program ranked #1 out of over 500 in his class.

Along with a strong educational and training background, James has strong business work experience and leadership experience in many areas that make him a successful business leader today. At Lockheed Martin James held positions starting as a financial analyst, and ultimately working his way to become finance manager, program manager, cash collections manager, Financial Planning & Analysis Manager, and ultimately bid capture manager. These roles have given James a strong business acumen, significant experience capturing, executing and tracking performance on government contracts, and experience leading teams and recruiting talent.

James also gained significant project management and business leadership experience as a part of Air Products and Chemicals, and the spin-off company Versum Materials. As part of these companies James ran $100MM to $500MM chemical and specialty materials businesses. As P&L owner, and responsible manager for over 10 plants across the US, Taiwan and Korea, James was responsible for managing all plant expansion and cost/productivity improvement projects, recruiting and managing international teams, customer procurement and interactions, budgeting and capital planning, heading mergers and acquisition efforts, and being ultimately responsible for business performance.

Since 2019, James has been focused and committed to bringing all the skills and experience he has acquired to driving Excel Mechanical forward, unlocking the latent potential the company had prior to his involvement, and transforming the company from being nearly unknown in the industry to the fastest growing and most exciting mechanical/electrical company in the region. James’ leadership coupled with the industry skills and knowledge of Excel’s current leadership team have led to great success and will continue to do so as Excel’s name and reputation spread throughout the market.
