About
Cody Gardiner is the Director of the Electrical Division at Excel Mechanical Contractors, LLC. In his role he is responsible for ensuring that the division has the right people, resources, capabilities, training, knowledge, and planning to execute any projects or service calls that the division may have. Under the direction of Excel’s VP, Cody has been a critical piece to the successful creation of Excel’s Electrical Division, starting in 2021. Under his guidance the division has grown from $0 to an expected revenue of nearly $10MM in 2024. As this division is Excel’s newest, Cody has taken on a very broad role to ensure that the division could not only be successful in execution, building a strong reputation, but also that it would require as little overhead expense as possible until the division could sustain more investment. As such, Cody has successfully executed the role of lead estimator, project manager, and manpower coordinator for all electrical projects. In this role he has done a fantastic job of executing
jobs profitably and in a way that has continued to build on Excel’s strong reputation. He has also done a fantastic job of not only deepening the relationships with Excel’s current customers, but also creating new relationships that have allowed Excel to grow both its Electrical and Mechanical divisions.
Cody has a unique background which has given him deep knowledge of both Electrical and Mechanical contracting, and the construction industry as a whole. While growing up Cody was exposed to our industry from an early age. Until 2022, his father was the President of another local mechanical contracting company in Baltimore, that performed new construction and retrofit work for many local school districts. As such, Cody was exposed to the industry and the challenges that come along with this industry. He was also exposed to how a high-level company executive handles the various situations that arise in the industry, and learned strong management skills from a young age. This has been critical in allowing Cody to succeed in his roles at Excel and in his roles prior to joining the company. It has also given him experience in both Electrical and Mechanical, which has proven valuable on the projects where we execute scope for both trades.
Throughout his career Cody has worked his way up through the ranks of several companies, starting as an electrical helper and progressing to be a leader and Registered Master Electrician. For his first six years he worked with a local electrical contractor, starting off as a helper, progressing through his apprenticeship, and ultimately becoming the company’s top foreman. In his ultimate role he was responsible for overseeing multiple jobs and over 20 electricians. During this time he oversaw both project management and on-site supervision for electrical projects across the school, commercial, medical, and residential market segments. He also gained valuable experience in panel & high voltage gear, advanced lighting system, low voltage communication system, and fire alarm system installations.
He next took on a role with Bomark Electric, one of Maryland’s premier electrical contractors as superintendent, estimator, and project manager. During his time with Bomark, Cody was able to successfully and profitably execute projects over $20MM, while meeting deadlines and maintaining customer relationships. Through the execution of these projects he further deepened his knowledge and experience in the school, commercial, and medical markets. As well as building a strong network with customers, contractors, vendors, and subcontractors.
Cody’s skill, knowledge, work ethic, and dedication have been instrumental in the success achieved by Excel’s new electrical division. He has enabled the company to grow, while continuing to enhance our reputation for knowledgeable, timely, and professional execution.
